Frequently Asked Questions

  • How long will it take to respond to a water leak?

All reported water leaks will be checked the same day they are reported. Repairs that require digging may take 2-3 days to repair. This is due to local excavating laws and to ensure that other utilities are given sufficient time to mark their service for safety reasons.

  • What is considered a water service emergency?

For a list of emergency water situations please go to our Emergency Contact and Information page.

  • How do I apply for new water service?

To apply for new water service, choose the applicable form on our Customer Forms page.

  • Do you estimate the usage on my bill?

Estimated bills are rare. We typically make two attempts to acquire a meter read before estimating your monthly usage.

  • How can I help prevent an estimated bill?

You can help prevent your water bill from being estimated by making sure the meter box is not obstructed in any way. Shrubs, bushes, and trees need to be trimmed back in order to allow easy meter access. Vehicles should not be parked over the meter.

  • Can I turn off my own water service?

Only authorized Liberty Utilities personnel can turn off the water service at the meter. You may turn off the water at the shut-off valve, which is located within 18 inches of the meter on the customer's side of the meter.

  • There is no shut-off valve on my side of the meter and I need to turn off the water for a plumbing repair. What should I do?

If there is no shut-off valve on your side of the meter, you may schedule a service call and we will send a technician to turn your water off. There is no charge for this service during regular business hours.

  • Why does my water usage seem high?

Many times, high usage can be attributed to the unnecessary running of water during everyday tasks like brushing your teeth, running water while hand-washing dishes or over-watering your lawn. If you practice water conservation methods at home, then you may want to check and repair dripping faucets and running toilets or have a plumber check for suspected hidden leaks.

  • Why does my glass of tap water look cloudy?

Cloudy water from your tap is caused by air bubbles in the water. This is not harmful. Let your glass of water settle for a few minutes and the air should dissipate.

  • Why is the tap water running warm from the cold tap?

Warm water running from your cold water tap can be attributed to your location if you live in a hot climate or to pipes that are located close to the surface of the ground.

  • Why won't you repair leaks in my yard or inside my house?

Liberty Utilities is responsible for maintenance on the company side of the meter. If a leak occurs beyond the point of the water meter, on the customer side, the owner of the property is responsible for the leak.

  • Who can I contact if my question has not been answered?

If you have questions or concerns that have not been answered or addressed by the information provided, please contact your local Liberty Utilities office.
